Laughter, bonding and biological evolution

چکیده
This paper combines perspectives from evolutionary biology and linguistics to discuss the early evolution of laughter possible role laughter-like vocalisation as a bonding mechanism in hominins human species. From perspective biology, we here emphasise several things: exaptation, typically very slow pace change, danger projecting backwards current utilities infer its earlier function, hundreds thousands, or even millions, years ago. linguistics, examine both semantics word ‘laugh’ vocal mechanics production, arguing that greater terminological care is needed talking about precursors ancient past. Finally, turn hypotheses how vocalisations may have arisen, long before articulate language know it today. We focus particular on Robin Dunbar’s hypothesis vocalisation, which stimulated endorphin might functioned (a kind “vocal grooming”) among The contributes special issue theme (Humour Belonging) by casting look time distant precursor humour, an cognitively socially modern forms “belonging”. At same time, cautions against casual theorising origins laughter.

Reconstructing the Evolution of Laughter in Great Apes and Humans
It has long been claimed that human emotional expressions, such as laughter, have evolved from nonhuman displays. The aim of the current study was to test this prediction by conducting acoustic and phylogenetic analyses based on the acoustics of tickle-induced vocalizations of orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos and humans. Results revealed both important similarities and differences amo...
متن کاملEvolution and biological control
Opinions about the value of biological control are often extreme. Colloquially, biological control most often refers to classical biological control, in which one species is introduced from another region to control pests such as arthropod herbivores in agricultural systems, or weeds in managed and natural systems. As such, biological control has the potential to be a low-cost, chemical free, m...

This article examines re search evidence for the popu lar idea that humor and laughter have beneficial ef fects on physical health. Poten tial theoretical mechanisms for such effects are discussed first. Empirical evidence for benefi cial effects of humor and laughter on immunity, pain tolerance, blood pressure, lon gevity, and illness symptoms is then summarized. Overall, the evidence for heal...

متن کاملBiological Evolution and Statistical Physics
This review is an introduction to theoretical models and mathematical calculations for biological evolution, aimed at physicists. The methods in the field are naturally very similar to those used in statistical physics, although the majority of publications appeared in biology journals. The review has three parts, which can be read independently. The first part deals with evolution in fitness l...
